The following applies to all junior events
All the participants in the Welsh Closed Championships must be
Under 18: Born 2003 or later
Under 15: Born 2006 or later
Under 12: Born 2009 or later
Players must also be registered members of the WCU and also Welsh qualified in at least one of the following ways:
a) Birth in Wales.
b) Child of a person who was born in Wales.
c) Ten years consecutive residence in Wales at any time prior to the event in question.
d) Residence in Wales for at least two years immediately before the event in question
e) Throughout the period of six months immediately before the event in question attendance as a student at a school or establishment of further or higher education in Wales
f ) a player who has represented the Union in any junior international event remains qualified to take part in junior closed championships.
Entry Fee for all events is £10
Pairings will be published on chess-results.com. The player who is white will issue a challenge to their opponent on Lichess. See the lichess page for further details.
Rate of Play: 45 mins + 15 secs
Byes: Players may claim two half point byes in any round except the last round.
Fair Play Guidelines
All players will need to join a Zoom conference call with Video enabled before beginning play of each round. Sound should be turned off.
The final results will not be published until the results of scans of the games are known. For further details see the Fair Play Rules.
Entries received after Thursday 10th June will only be accepted at the controller's discretion.
Prizes
Trophies will be awarded to the players finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd and also to the highest placed female player.
The Welsh Over the Board Trophies will NOT be awarded for these Championships
