Defaults. A defaulted board is scored 1–0 to the opposing player and counts in the board points. Where a board is defaulted without prior warning to the opposing captain, a penalty of ½ a board point per board is deducted from the defaulting team's score; the match result is decided on the score after deduction.
Byes. A team receiving a bye is credited with the match points for a win. In an all-play-all competition no board points are credited; in a swiss competition board points equal to the number of boards are credited. A bye does not count as a match played and no games are rated.
