Welsh Senior’s Championships and the WCU October Open

Tournament Details

Ratings: The Oct 2026 FIDE and latest published National ratings will be used for this event.

Late Entries: Online entries close at 6pm on Thursday 1st October. Entries will be allowed after this, but at the cost of a ½ bye for round 1. Contact Kevin Staveley on 07885 226743.

Withdrawals: Regrettably, refunds will not be considered until the cost of overheads are met.

Exclusions/Transfers: The organisers reserve the right to refuse or transfer entries.

Late arrivals: All competitors will be allowed 30 minutes on their clocks in any round and then defaulted.

Photographs: Photographs taken at the event may be used on WCU website and other publicity. Please contact Kevin Staveley by email prior to the event if you do not wish your photo to be used in publicity.

Prizes: Only the highest prize will be awarded to any player eligible for more than one prize.

Appeals: Any appeal against the decision of an arbiter must be made in writing with supporting reasons within 30 minutes of the end of the game and accompanied by a deposit of £50. The decision of the Chief Arbiter (or Deputy Chief Arbiter if the Chief Arbiter made the original decision) is final and cannot be appealed. The deposit will be returned if the appeal is upheld.

Byes: A ½ point bye may be claimed in the first 4 rounds.

Rate of play: All moves in 90 minutes, plus a increment of 30 seconds per move from move 1.

FROM THE EAST
Leave M4 at junction 29 and join A48(M). After 4 miles take the exit signposted Cardiff Docks and Cardiff Bay. Take 3rd exit off the roundabout onto another smaller roundabout. Take 3rd exit. Hotel is located on your right.

FROM THE WEST
Leave the M4 at junction 30 and take 3rd exit off the roundabout. At next roundabout taken 2nd exit, and at the third roundabout take 2nd exit onto A48(M). Take 2nd exit signposted Cardiff Docks and Cardiff Bay. Take 3rd exit off the roundabout onto another smaller roundabout. Take 3rd exit. Hotel is located on your right.
