Arbiter’s Seminar

Below is the process to become a qualified WCU National Arbiter.

To qualify an a National Arbiter a prospective candidate must complete all of the following: 

• Attendance at a Seminar organised by the Welsh Chess Union (2 sessions: 2½ hours each session)
• Sitting and passing an examination with a mark of 80% or above (Exam is 2½ hrs in length)

• Working alongside a qualified arbiter for at least three events with at least two different time controls (standard play, rapidplay and blitz). At each event the qualified arbiter will write a report on the candidate and three positive reports are needed to qualify.

In order to offer the opportunity for prospective arbiters to begin this process the Welsh Chess Union is organising a Seminar which will be conducted by Peter Purland, International Arbiter. To complete the seminar candidates must attend both sessions which will be held between 4 pm and 6.30 pm on Sundays 18^th and 25^th October on Zoom.

The examination will take place on Sunday 15^th November between 4 pm and 6.30 pm. This will be an on-line examination with candidates required to join a Zoom call with cameras on.

The cost of the Seminar and Examination will be £25 per person.
