At the 3rd Welsh Seniors Championships and South Wales Summer Congress, held in Penarth on 1-3 September 2017, Lee Davies netted first placed in the Seniors with 4/5. Peter Bevan and AGM Rudy Van Kemenade shared second with 3.5 points.
In the Open section Thomas Brown continued his fine form from over the summer. Brown, joint winner of the Roy Clues trophy for winning the Major section at the British scored a perfect 5/5 and gained almost 40 FIDE points. Tim Kett came second on 3.5 points, and sharing third were: Alan Young, Gareth Morris, Alex Bullen, Nigel Ralphs and Peter Ehsandar. In the Major section, Elliot MacNeil came first with 4/5, and Neil Stuart, Kam Choo Yin and Chris Peters came joint second with 3.5 points.
