Four teams represented Wales at this event. They were The Full Ponty, Morriston in Wales, Cardiff Chess Club 1 and Cardiff Chess Club 2.
The Full Ponty were seeded 96 of 102, Morriston in Wales 101 of 102, Cardiff Chess Club 1 89 0f 102 and Cardiff Cess Club 2 102 of 102.
Cardiff Chess Club 1 finished in 94th place, Morriston in Wales in 97th place, The Full Ponty in 98th place and Cardiff Chess Club 2 in 102nd place.
All our teams had hard fought games but only Morriston in Wales finished above their initial seeded position.
As a result of the teams efforts, Mark Adams and John Fletcher (The Full Ponty) and Matteo Favoni (Morriston in Wales) were awarded the Candidate Master (CM) titles.
Congratulations to all who competed and special congratulations go to our new CM’s!
As the WCU’s important priority is to increase our number of tiled players, the event is proving fruitful in that regard as the 2024 event resulted in Jason Garcia being awarded the FIDE Master (FM) title and Lee Davis the CM title.
