Chepstow Comprehensive just misses out on ECF Team Challenge finals

At the West Region regional finals of the ECF Team Challenge, held at Bristol Grammar on Monday 6 February, Chepstow School came within half a point of qualifying for the finals.

The Chepstow ‘A’ team-of four – David McIntosh, George Smith, Madeleine Smith and Rachel McIntosh – got off to a great start, with a win 4-0 against Churchill Academy ‘B’. In the second round, they won 3-1 against QEH Bristol ‘A’, and netted the same scoreline against Churchill ‘A’. In the final round they needed to net 2.5 points or more against Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ to win the competition, but drew this match that went down to the wire.

Chepstow ‘B’ also put in a strong performance. This team – Neil Stevenson, Sam Goodfellow, Aaron Roberts and Nathan Bridel – finished on 8 game points, and came 8th out of the 14 teams that took part (and were the second highest ‘B’ team).

All the Chepstow players enjoyed the afternoon a great deal. With just 15 minutes on the clock, and no increment, there were many exciting finishes. The Great Hall at Bristol Grammar provided a wonderful backdrop, and the free refreshments, including doughnuts, were much appreciated.
