Howell’s of Cardiff have retained the Welsh Secondary School Championships, which were played at St John’s on Saturday 12 November.
The all-girls school did not start well, losing 3.5-0.5 to Chepstow in the first round. However, they bounced back emphatically, and went on to win all their other matches convincingly in this five team, all-play-all event. Chepstow and Monmouth both finished one match point behind Howell’s. In the Gwent encounter, Monmouth edged the match 2.5 vs 1.5, but Chepstow came second, thanks to higher game points. St John’s came fourth with 4 match points, and Cathys came fifth. Continue reading Howell’s retains Welsh Secondary School Championships

Under CONGRESS RULES the second paragraph should read as follows. The wording below will be used during the congress and NOT the wording on the entry form:
AFTERNOON ROUNDS
|
The draw for afternoon rounds will be made as soon as possible following the completion of the morning rounds. In extreme circumstances, if a game is not completed within 4 hours 30 minutes of the start time, it will normally be adjudged a draw in order to aid pairings for the afternoon round. However, the arbiters reserve the right to use their judgement to pair players involved in unfinished games by assuming a win and a loss, should the situation at the time warrant such a decision.
Any player may request a 30 minute break before the start of their afternoon game. This request must be made immediately on conclusion of the morning game at the latest.
