At a recent Management Board meeting, it was decided that the 2019 WCU AGM will be held on Sunday 7th April 2019. The venue has yet to be decided. 420 children representing 40 teams took part in this competition. The event relies on the generous time given up by volunteers, many of whom have attended each year, and all are thanked for their support of this event. The event was organised in two sections with the prize winners as follows: DIVISION 1 1st: St John’s College, Cardiff
DIVISION 2 1st: Roath Park Primary School, Cardiff
The trophies were presented by the Welsh Chess Union Patron, Lord Greg Mostyn, who spent a significant part of the day at the event watching the young people in play.
30 players took part in this competition held at Llandaff Memorial Hall, Cardiff on 25th November. This can be viewed here. The Welsh Chess Premier League commenced on 4th November with three very close matches all ending with the score 3.5/2.5. Cardigan produced a very strong top board clean sweep to beat Nidum. Cardiff beat the new team, The Full Ponty, thanks to wins for Alex Bullen and Tom Brown. Finally, Abergavenny came away from Llanelli with a victory due to a greater strength on the lower boards. The closeness of the results indicates that it could be a very exciting tournament this year.– Report by Paul Hatchett All the games are now available for download.
