The September 2018 ECU Newsletter can be viewed here. White Knights will be competing in the 2018 European Club Cup in Chalkidiki, Greece 11th – 19th October. The team will consist of Allan Pleasants, Bill Hewitt, Pete Heaven, Jason Garcia, Adam May, Peter Bevan and David Buttell. We wish them good luck! The event can be followed here. The games can be viewed here. White Knights finihed above expectation in 57th place out of 61 teams instead of the initial 58th place. Further special mention should br made regarding Chirag Guha (North Cardiff) who played for Wood Green finishing onn 1.5/4 points and gaining 38 rating points. The games from the 2018 Welsh Seniors Championships are now available on the Games page. The ‘missing’ games are from byes. At the FIDE General Assembly held in Batumi, Georgia, Arkady Dvorkovitch was elected as the new FIDE President. His team will be: Bachar Kouatly – Deputy President
The 2018 Welsh Seniors was won by Dai James. The South Wales Autumn Blitz was won by Peter Bevan. The Welsh Open and Ladies teams are currently competing in the 43rd Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia. PLEASE NOTE Members are reminded that adult subscriptions for season 2018/19 have been increased to £15, following the approved resolution at the last AGM. Junior fees remain at £7. The annual lightning tournament that traditionally marks the beginning of the new season in West Wales took place at the Morriston Rugby Club, The new home of Morriston Chess Club on Monday 3rd September. Eighteen players took part. Thirteen from the Morriston Club. Peter Bevan’s draw with Bill Hewitt in the last round was enough win the tournament out right with 4.5/5 after Bill had earlier drawn with Mike Burrows.
