Howell’s of Cardiff have retained the Welsh Secondary School Championships, which were played at St John’s on Saturday 12 November.

The all-girls school did not start well, losing 3.5-0.5 to Chepstow in the first round. However, they bounced back emphatically, and went on to win all their other matches convincingly in this five team, all-play-all event. Chepstow and Monmouth both finished one match point behind Howell’s. In the Gwent encounter, Monmouth edged the match 2.5 vs 1.5, but Chepstow came second, thanks to higher game points.
