Howell’s wins ECF Girls’ Under 19 semi-final

Well done to the three Howell’s School teams who competed in the ECF National Girls’ Schools Southern Semi-Final at St Catherine’s School, Bramley on 15th January. The competition, now in its 5th year, attracted the largest ever entry for a girls UK chess competition, with over 200 girls battling it out for the chance to compete for their school in the Finals.

South Wales and West of England Jamboree

The South Wales and West of England Jamboree took place at Chepstow School on Saturday 14 January. Somerset won the under 14s, Glamorgan won the under 11s, and Somerset won the under 9s.

Geof Tyrrell Best Game Prize 2016: Approaching Deadline

The deadline for entries for the 2016 award is 31 January 2017; so there is still time to nominate a game (which need not have been played by the person making the nomination).  The detailed rules can be found here  but briefly to qualify for consideration a 2016 game must be a win or a draw by a player qualified to represent Wales in a FIDE competition against a non-Welsh opponent graded over 2250 and FIDE-rated at least 150 points above the entrant at the time the game was played. We are also reviewing the rules for this competition and comments are invited.

2017 Junior Rapidplay Rating List now published

The 2017 Junior Rapidplay Rating List is now available for download from the Grades page.

Helen Sherwood has acheived the WGM Correspondence Chess title!

It has recently been confirmed by the ICCF that Helen Sherwood (Wales) has acheived the ICCF WGM title.

She will be awarded a medal and certificate shortly.
