George Smith, a chess player at Chepstow School, has been awarded the title Welsh Arbiter. The first of three Welsh Junior Congresses to be held this autumn took place on Saturday 21 October at Bishop Hedley High School in Merthyr. Daniel Shek won the Open section, Yuxuan Wu the Premiership, Rishi Paul the Major and Sarthak Nukalapati the Starters. At the 2017 Welsh Secondary School Championships, hosted at Bishop Hedley High School in Merthyr on Saturday 21 October, the joint winners were two schools from Cardiff: St John’s, and the previous holders, Howell’s.
